If you haven't attended an Alzheimers Family support group don't wait. It's a great place to meet people doing caregiving and you'll pick up a lot of great ideas. I have new friends that I now meet with outside the support group meetings and I know that in a pinch, I have them to talk to for support.

The Respite Program gives a monetary reimbursement so you can take a rest, so give yourself a break! The support groups give information, support and friendship. You are not alone in your caregiving duties!!! We urge people to take advantage of our programs and services. You'll be happy you did.

My mom has Azlheimer's and her younger brother passed away from it. My mom somehow puts a big smile on my face everyday. Her strength & courage inspire me so. She has become my hero.

Good Evening, I am not sure this media is set up for questions or not. My wife was diagnosed with this horrible disease in April of 2008. She has been on Aricept since diagnosis and was recently prescribed Namenda. Even prior to the Namenda she has been experiencing shortness of breath with almost minimum activity and sometimes periods of light headedness. She says she is always tired and feels drug out.

Are these symptoms common with Alzheimer's?

Any suggestions or adviced.

Thank You,
Earl F. Howe

Hi Earl,
Alzheimer's symptoms and side effects from Aricept and Namenda vary from person to person. I would suggest reporting these to the patient's doctor to see if there is a dosage tweak needed. You can also contact the Suncoast Alzheimer's Gerontology Center for additional information in relation to the current medications and their effectiveness at (813) 974–4355 or toll free in Florida 800-633-4563.
