“As you probably know, the support groups give as much or more to the facilitator as to the participants. I had been facilitating support groups for a number of years when I noticed the undeniable symptoms of early onset dementia. As much as I wanted to ignore the symptoms, it became impossible. My family, friends, and physicians have been wonderful. Carol McCarthy, and the health care community that I have worked with for years, in support of ADRD patients and caregivers, rallied around me and have supported me through the testing, the medications, the career changes, and the gradual acceptance of that which I cannot change. Without this support group and the people involved, I may not have had the courage to speak openly about my symptoms, to seek treatment and maintain hope for the future, however uncertain it has become.
I cannot imagine not having AFO for the information, support, kindness, camaraderie, and hope that it provides every day.”
